How do I get audio on my Dell intel Core 2 Duo?

Whenever I go to Control Panel and then 'Sounds and Audio Devices', it simply says "No Audio Device" and won't allow me to edit any of the settings. There has to be some sort of audio capability on this laptop considering there is a headphone jack and a microphone jack, but I can not seem to figure it out. Can anyone help me out with this?

You need to install the driver for your soundcard, my friend. It will be on the CD that came with your computer.

If you can't find the CD you'll need to logon to the Dell website, enter either the Service Tag or Express Service Code for your laptop or select it from a list of laptops. You'll also need to select which Operating System you're running on your computer to ensure that you get the correct download.

If you need a hand, could I ask you to edit your question, indicating which specific Dell laptop it is that you have, and which Operating System you're using on your computer. Someone will then be able to locate the direct page where you can download the driver(s) from.

load or update the sound driver. once this is done reset in the control panel. the headphone jack is what you need to use not the mic

Download and re-install the audio driver.
