Military Section regulars?

Do You Find It More Annoying When People Capitalize Every Word, oR iS iT MoRe AnNoYiNg WhEn ThEy Do ThIs? Or when they use l33t?

How about when they make a long narrative where they give you their whole life story and dont use proper punctuation or know how to make paragraphs? Like when they talk about every little thing that has nothing to do with their issue and then finally get around to their point, which is then only tangentially related to the military at all? I wonder if they still teach grammar in school? Do you know what I mean? Or spell check. It IS a feature here, but is so rarely used. Some of these tomes have multiple issues such as what I mention here, and it gives me a headache trying to read them. At some point I will often just quit and go onto the next question.

Is that the same for you, or is it just me? Thoughts?

Update:

Damn! I totally forgot about textspeak. Crap. Thank u 4 the reminders guys!

How about all of the above?? Could that be an option as well. The days when texting language like how r u doing? Shouldn't be authorized because they now have a full keyboard to use not just the 7 phone keys.

Or how about spelling when they say "after my collage education" or "when I get payed" or "is it aloud". I have to tell you as a parent of 2 spelling and punctuation is NOT being taught the same way we learned if it is even done at all. For spell check they think because they are doing it on the computer it is automatic which sometimes it does.

Plus some even have this idea that the pay charts are bi-weekly not monthly (pay is bi-monthly and the charts are BEFORE deductions).

Oh wait the idea that these kids have because they can be a sniper or a SEAL or whatever in the military automatically because they are awesome at Call of Duty or some other video game.

My 14 year old laughs so hard at some of these questions.

I'm not a regular poster, more a voyeur trying to live vicariously through the military...

I try not to judge authors or question - even the more inane question I'd rather someone have the balls and ask risking ridicule than wallow in ignorance all timid. If I'm judging authors I have far too much time on my hands or drama in my existence.

That said you nailed my pet peeve. I try not to judge but leetspeek and that 'if ur in a tank and ur tank runs out of gas...' enables that 'reach through the screen and slap the other person silly' reflex that I'm unable to prevent.

Colour me old school but the English language as it is works perfectly well and if one is putting their foot into a public area that same person tripping as the take the first step just appears moronic.

In my mind a typo or ignoring spell check is a mere oversight, tough getting excited about that - being incorrect up on purpose by design is a whole other thing.

(jez I spent 10mins going over every word praying I didn't mess up... I feel like the recruits during the opening scene of Full Metal Jacket hoping I pass muster LOL)

    Paragraphs!

If you're going to have something long winded on here, in addition to proper punctuation and spelling, at least cut it up, properly, into paragraphs.

Ohhhh, and don't even get me started on textspeak. I couldn't stand it when it first came out, and I can't stand it now.

And study history for crying out loud. So many of these people on here seem to think the reason our country does some of the things it does, is just because we can. Try studying history, using the cause and effect principle. It might surprise you what you discover.

    Ok, that's enough for now.

    I weep for the future.

People come on here with sentence structure, grammar and spelling like you describe then get all butthurt when I assume they are an idiot. If you can't type a reasonable sentence, yes, I'm going to assume you are too stupid to do so.

My favorite are the teeny boppers that think they are in love and the only military connection to their question is that their boyfriend is going to basic soon with a million questions unrelated.

I give up quite often trying to read some of this drivel. The personal messages people send me sounding oh so offended by my replies aren't much better.

I'm not a 'regular' in this section but I am a military spouse and an English major :)

I am definitely the grammar police; my biggest pet peeve is people who know nothing about basic sentence structure. Most people have a handle on spelling and proper grammar early on in life but there's always exceptions.

    Loose vs lose

    Aloud vs allowed

    Paid vs payed

    Their vs there

    ...and the list goes on.

If you want to be taken seriously, at least post a grammatically correct question.

  • Wine Wine got pissed at me for making the long winded crap right back at the crazies..it do be fun to see if they say anything after a rant back at em....just finished one. I did that crazy crap with the caps maybe 3 months ago to some kid that did it in a question. You have seen plenty of my answers, I cus em out, act as crazy as them to see what they say....it is mostly silence though.

Hang tough! The US claims a 98% literacy rate. Academics estimate that 46 - 50% off that base is functionally Illiterate...I offer the mortgage debacle as proof!

Carry on, this beats getting drunk and playing liars dice.....but it would be mo funner if the kiddies had a bit more than a 2 digit IQ!

Being completely honest, I am disgusted with what most of today's youth is like. Americas youth is becoming a hazard to this country. I recently found out that they don't even teach cursive in schools anymore. They even have a daycare at the middle school in my neighborhood.

Kids today are about as bright as a dark hole.

More annoying when they capitalize every other letter........except for Killek and his screaming.

The run-on background and bad grammar make my eyes glaze over and I don't read the whole thing.

Drives me crazy. Mine isn't exactly great, because my family moved around a lot. I learned punctuation, etc when I used my GI Bill after I got out. Hell though, at least I try.

    All of the above?

My absolute biggest? Aloud vs. Allowed. I mean really? Have they completely stopped teaching definitions?!

PSA of the day to all wannabes: if you want to be taken seriously, then do us the courtesy of taking the time to act like you want to be taken seriously. That means using proper sentence structure, pretending to use spell check, and for Pete's sake learn the difference lose and loose, okay?!
