At the fan you should two switches one for the fan and one for the light tie them together ( black or blue ) then tie them to the wall switch, your fan and light will be operated by the switches on the fan. The wall switch will control power to them so if you want the light on leave the switch for the light in the on position and the fan in the off or you can turn both on.

Wire the two hots for the light and fan (probably blue and black) to the black in your box.

Black and blue together, whites together.
Fan and light get controlled at the fan, and the switch turns on and off completely.
