I have a painful bump on the back of my head... What can this be?

There's been no trauma, no bumping it on something. I just woke up with it, out of nowhere. Please help! I can't imagine what it could be.

Update:

I HOPE it's just an insect bite. Thanks for answering. I didn't even consider that it might be that.

Probably a spider bite, very few spiders stings are worse than a ant sting. Seek medical help if it becomes inflamed or last more than a couple days. Make sure your bed is at least 6 inches away from any wall.

It could be some swelling from maybe a bug bite or a pimple. Sometimes in effect to a mosquito bite or something similar the affected part swells greatly and becomes painful. It also has a good chance of being an ingrown hair. When the hair curls back or grows sideways this can happen. Try putting a warm washcloth over it for an hour or more. If problem persists see a doctor or a dermatologist.

Maybe you got bit by something (insect) and didn't realize it at the time.
