See if there is something that you can do at home. Are you good at proof reading? Or maybe you are good at selling things, maybe buying and selling on ebay, a lot of people do that and make a small profit, enough to live on. There are other things you can do at home too, if you are creative and like to write short stories, there are places you can send them in to and win money, enough to keep going to the next short story is finished and you can send it in again.

It can be difficult to get and keep a job with bipolar or any other disability, but try to not give up. I don't know how it works in UK, but here sometimes volunteering somewhere can lead to a paid job and you would get to see if you would like that job before you commit.

Is the reason you don't see any chance of a job because of your condition preventing you from finding and holding down work, or due to a lack of confidence and skills as a result of being out of work for 7 years? If it's the latter, then you probably would benefit from going on some courses that may help improve your current skills as well as building confidence. You could go to college and retrain. If it's directly due to your condition, then please don't be too hard on yourself. You didn't ask to be this way and it's not your fault if you would find it hard to cope with work. One day in the future, your symptoms may improve enough to work. But either way, don't give up hope. Stay strong and keep your chin up.

Edit: And to the person above, such ignorance. For the purposes of sickness/disability benefit, if an illness or condition impairs a person's ability to function to a reasonable standard on a daily basis, it can be classed as a disability in this regard. It's great that you work and study, but surely you must realize that people's conditions vary in severity and there may be a time when you one day require help from the state if your condition was to worsen to the point where you became unable to cope. Don't be so judgmental of others. You pay your taxes because one day it might be you in this situation.

Don't feel so sad! It's never too late to turn around your life.

I know life is difficult when you have bipolar, but you can definitely get some jobs. Just keep on adding the skill set....you may never know what you may end up doing.

Like....learn coding (my brother learnt an entire language over the net)....and take up small project.

May be you can learn graphic designing and illustrate or become a graphic designer.

Why not learn a new language....you can teach or even become a translator.

Why not become an insurance agent....you can pick your work timings.

When you have no direction, shoot an arrow in every direction, you may never know what may click!

Unemployment shouldn't worry you....as long as you are learning something.

I was in the same boat, so what i did and i know not everybody would be comfortable with this is i lied on applications i said that i had no medical problems and when it said past work experience i said i had been doing dog walking this way nobody can check up on your employment history and they had no reason not to invite me to an interview.

With the problem with my own health i applied for casual jobs only so that if i did not feel up to work it did not matter i eased my self in gently i am now at the stage where i work part time 20 hours a week but term time only this Means i get lots of rest and big holidays in between. I know this wouldn't suit everybody but maybe it could help you.

The casual job i got was working for the council as a passenger assistant to disabled children, other jobs are available on a casual basis.
