Why is instagram deleting so many accounts?

My account for deleted and idk what happened. I was so close to 1K. Idk why. I think it's because of people not using the

instgram camera. But they didn't warn me or anything. I was just online and it logged off and it didn't let me log back on. I'm so pissed.

Deleting Instagram Account

It seems many Instagram were caught off-guard today when the free photo-sharing app suddenly deleted a significant number of accounts, citing “terms of service violations” as the reason despite many affected users having no such content on their profiles.

Some users reported that their accounts had been deleted for not posting from the built-in camera in the app, which seems like to be an unlikely reason. It seems that the deletions, while reportedly widespread, are somewhat inconsistent. My own account which has been dormant for over a year remains intact, while others who post frequently report having lost access.

Scores of tweets have been posted over the past few hours about the deletions, but Instagram has not made any official statement on the issue.

You have to post pictures from the Instagram camera. All of my friends accounts were deleted. So I got scared and posted a bunch of pics from the Instagram camera and you also have to do an effect. And you also have to tag @dontdeletemyig and you should also hashtag #dontdeletemyig. Accounts might be deleting becuase of technical difficulties from Instagram, that's what people are saying. My theory is that someone is hacking Instagram and is making this whole thing up for attention and deleting people's instagrams. Good luck!

From what I hear this has something to do with clearing up the server space by deleting inactive accounts. An inactive account is identified by those who don't use the Instagram camera which can be a problem since many people use other cameras and then upload to Instagram so a tactic many are using is taking a quick picture through the Instagram app to make sure they show up as active in the eyes of Instagram servers.

There is one HUGE reason insta. may be deleting a lot of accounts here may be some reasons

1.) Spam accounts, users who add more than at least 2000 people and STEAL other peoples Instagram pics. from other users.

2.) Many inactive/dead accounts could speed up instagram A LOT better.

3.) There may be an "anonymous" hack going on and instagram is trying to stop it.

4.) Or it may be just to clear up the database (as someone already mentioned)

I don't know bout the whole not posting with instagram camera thing. But I thinks its because Fb bought IG. THey changed the policies so that if you follow/like or do anything with spam accounts it's considered spam. Also if you put a URL in a comment its against the TOS. Don't change your website in the bio or it is against the rules, if you already have 1 its fine just dont change it. If you advertise bye bye. Give credz to pics. Okay so my account was deleted last night. I was basically heartbroken because i loved instagram and had so many followers and friends, then i got a notification from my account that got deleted. I was so confused and decided to log back on again, and this time, it worked! so if your account was deleted for no reason, give it a day. It'll come back. it happened to allot others too.

I don't know. Their deleting everyone's accounts! People are saying because they need space. To save yourself, quickly post a picture using the Instagram camera! Like I did! Hurry

I've read a lot of those comments too. I'm not 100% sure it's true but that is what everyone is saying. So to be on the safe side you should take a picture with the instagram camera and do "@instagram" in the comments so they'll see. A lot of people have done that and nothing has hapoened to their account. I did it also and nothing.has hapoened to my account.
