My Isuzu Trooper won't idle when cold.?

The title pretty much sums it up. I have a 1989 Isuzu trooper with the multiport 2.6. It's stubborn to get started in the morning or after it's been sitting a while, it runs a bit rich, and it won't idle until it's been driven for a while. It will idle when cold as long as it's moving, i.e. coasting at 20mph in neutral. Can't seem to find any vacuum leaks and all the gauges look good. No coolant in the oil or in the exhaust, no oil in the coolant. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Update:

Additional info: Not a diesel, and it has 170000 miles. The engine is pretty modern by 80's standards: Common rail fuel injection (not TBI or a carb), overhead cam, mass air sensor, fully computer controlled.

Hi so what sort of mileage has this beast done as it sounds like wear to be honest. she is now 24 years old and with high mileage the usual reason for owning a diesel is high mileage at 24 years old it must be getting to that state. unless there has been a lack of maintenance and injectors are the issue.

Disconnect the computer control to the idle. To see if the idle changes.

i might think of incorrect hollow on the spark plug, or once you pulled off the spark plug wires you have gotten tousled between the wires itself. replace the wires, that doens't artwork, try plugs returned, with marvelous hollow. if that doesn't artwork, try a clean cap and rotor, if that doesnt artwork, i'm sorry
