It is true that a great number of Jewish people are agnostic or atheist?

One of my favorite Sci-Fi writers, Harlan Ellison, calls himself an atheist Jew. I think that's because even if you don't believe in god/religion, a Jew is still Jewish.

Yes, there are huge numbers of Agnostic, Atheistic, or Communist Jews in the world. My aunt married into a family of them, so I've been exposed to quite a bit about how they see their "Jewishness" as their heritage and culture while not including the "God" part in their feelings.

They maintain that they don't need to have a cult to maintain a culture is due to the way that the group has maintained a cohesive culture that exists with or without the paranormal nonsense... The food, the traditions, the in-breeding...

For those that say that this is not possible, what is "Latin Culture"? Latin America is full of Spaniards, Germans, Africans, Native Americans, etc. and the ONLY thing that forms a cohesive "Culture" is that they maintain cultural traditions regardless of the diversity of the breeding population. Why would Jewish Culture be any different? They've been maintaining a series of traditions and values and foods and styles for thousands of years.

What I find hard to understand is the numbers of American Jews that hold extreme communist views knowing that if Communism took over, they'd be forced to give up their cult and culture.

My Uncle and his family really opened my eyes to this concept.
