I was awarded SSDI, Do I have to pay monthly out of my benefits for Medicare ?

I have VA medical coverage and Tricare medical coverage that I pay for too, do I have to lose money from my monthly SSDI benefits to pay for medicare coverage?

Update:

Do you have to request it not to be taken because they took it out of my back pay and are stating they are taking it out in the future.

I am in a similar situation. A couple years ago they made a few new rules. If you get Tricare prime (active duty) you will NOT have to pay for medicare part B (you get part A free anyway) BUT once the Tricare becomes Tricare for Life (retired) you MUST pay for Tricare Part B in order to keep Tricare for life (TFL). These fees for Tricare and Medicare part A will need to be paid for by you. Part B will be taken out automatically each month through your benefits.

My husband is active duty. I get Tricare Prime and Medicare part B. Yet my coverage goes through Tricare for life since they consider it DUAL benefits. They consider it double dipping once you get Medicare Prt B since they are BOTH government benefits.

VA benefits work very similar to retired/active duty and Medicare.

You can NOT opt out of Medicare if you are also getting benefits from Tricare, unless you want to lose both. (this is what the double dipping comes to) you end up paying

You need to contact the VA and Tricare to see if they require you to have Medicare - many insurances do. If not then you can refuse it (although there is no premium for Part A - Hospital coverage) by returning the card. Does VA medical cover ALL medical conditions or only those stemming from your military service?

I have Medicare but I also have bc/bs to supplement it. Between the two I have no medical bills to pay because bc/bs pays what Medicare doesn't.

I see there are a lot of thumbs down. . . . why not call the VA and ask? Sounds like there have been changes. I do know (unless it changed recently) that you don't have to buy into Medicare's drug benefit, since your VA coverage is "creditable." So you can sign up for part D at a later date if you decide you want it, like if you move too far away from a VA clinic/hospital.

No ... I'm on SSDI and don't have medicare cause I'm on my wife's insurance. The hospitalization part (Part A) is free though.

You expect us to pay your Part B premiums? Stop complaining. You are better off that most working people. Everyone pays for Part B and some pay for Part A.
