is all lying a sin or is it ok to tell the police you thought the speed limit was 45 when you knew it was 30?

the Bible clearly condemns 3 types of lying: bringing false accusation against others, using dishonest means to get ahead, and preaching false doctrines that lead people away from Christ.

but god has overlooked(not punished, even rewarded, Hebrews 11:31) people in the bible who have done so.

are these the earliest cases of: do as I say and not as I do.

Joshua 2:4-6

Gen. 12:11-20, 20:1-12

Exodus 20:16 and Deuteronomy 5:20

Proverbs 21:6

Tim. 4:1, 2

Update:

So far only one person has actually answered the main question. How do I know it was the main question? because all the supporting text relates to the lying question not the speeding question that I included just as an example of where some might say that it was ok. oh well folks, you can do better.

In your example, you tell the policeman

'Hi, can you tell me why you pulled me over?'

They might ask you again, being aggressive,

'Do you know how fast you were going'

I would have to reply to them

'sorry, but when I drive it never seems very fast at all'

There is no lying, just truth here.

They will feel frustrated having to tell you about

    the 45 vs. 30.

I would have to say to them

'I don't look well enough, and it could cause problems'

(I mean, I agree where it is possible).

I seem to get along with these people in these situations

because I look at it from their point of view.

You can tell the police whatever you like, it won't make any difference. If you tell them you didn't see the 30 sign you could be charged with driving without due care and attention as well as speeding. Forget about people who lied in the Bible and got away with it, they do not have to pay your speeding fine, you do.

If you tell the police anything you are an idiot!

The only reason the police ask you 'do you know why I pulled you over?" Is to try to trick you into confessing to violating the law... The only correct response is "No, Why did you pull me over?" or to just remain silent.
