Can two people fit in one person kayak?
I am looking into getting a kayak soon, a sit-on top, and i will most likely be going on it by myself more often so i would rather get a one person maybe 8-10' but, if i have a friend over would it be okay for us to go on it together? We wouldn't go out on rough waters just a small sand bar just out of my canal, and i am fairly experienced and know how to maneuver direction. I would be very cautious and there would be no rough housing, with all these factors included would it be okay to have a passenger onboard? Any input would be helpful;D thanks.

You are asking for trouble. Sit-on-tops are not kayaks. Short such boats are not stable. Doubling the load may make them even more unstable. K2s are another matter. Before you buy one, get a tryout.

no longer all kayaks are the take a seat interior form. There are take a seat on suitable varieties additionally. the variety between a canoe and a kayak. A kayak is the two a one or 2 guy or woman form of boat. A canoe is a multiperson boat. A kayak is paddled with a double bladed paddle whilst a canoe is a unmarried blade. right here in Hawaii they have races with the two varieties, canoe and kayak. Canoes are designed to hold heavy lots, whilst kayaks are not.

It isn't really a good idea. Kayaks are designed to have the load in a specific place, and cheap short kayaks such as you are thinking of buying will not be safe with two people on them and would not handle well. A boat that short would not only be extremely slow in the water, it would be nearly impossible to paddle since you would be sitting practically on top of each other.
One option you could consider would be the modular Point 65 kayaks. They snap together in sections so that you can make a single person kayak with 2 or 3 sections or a two person with 4 sections. But these are expensive and it would be cheaper to just buy two cheap 8' or 10' sit on tops.
Honestly, the only really versatile boats for one person or two people are canoes. You might want to look at the Mad River Adventure 14, which is a plastic canoe that is a lot like a sit on top kayak, having low sides and being narrow enough to paddle with a double-ended kayak paddle. A single paddler can sit in the stern (back) seat -- if you put a couple of gallons of water as ballast in the front it helps the boat paddle straight. Or you can paddle from the middle seat (the boat has a small molded middle seat). Two people can paddle it from the stern and bow (front) seats. We kayak a lot but also have a model of this canoe (though a longer one) and enjoy it just as much. We paddled one in the coastal Everglades in Florida and really liked it so we bought our own. You can buy one for about as much as a decent smaller sit on top kayak and it would be more versatile for you. They are sold at a lot of places for between $500 and $600.

It's a bit like getting 2 people on a 1 person bike ... you might be able to do it, but you are taking a risk with your safety, and you won't really be able to relax and enjoy it ...
I sell the Advanced Frame Convertible - this is a really popular inflatable kayak because it can be paddled tandem or solo and is easy to do both in - the seats actually move around so that you are balanced correctly.
Hope this helps!
