False. It depends on who these people are. Most people root for their home team. If you want fundamental basketball go watch the WNBA. Most fans want stars. Hell, David Stern want stars. I think when people say they are boring they probably refer to the player more than their success. The Spurs are consistent and professional. No craziness from the team. It is great and all but not very amusing. NBA after all is an entertainment entity not a basketball camp or training guide. As far as the distinction between real fans and casual fans there are no differences. It is all in the real fans mind. I have read posts from people who claim they are true fans and the things they say are as wacked out as the casual fans. Just because you are stupid enough to sit there and continue to root for an inferior team after year does not make you a better fan than the people who show up when the team is successful. Would you keep watching a crappy movie till the end just because you already started it? Some will but most will either ask for their money back or change the channel. People who defend the Spurs so vigorously are probably from San Antonio. I can understand being a bit bitter about the lack of attention they are getting while being so dominant. So they pull the we are true fans and understand the game line which is ridiculous. If winning is the case then how can everyone not be a Celtics or Lakers fans, they won the most Championships. The Lakers have played in 50% of the Finals since the league started. I believe Tony Parker said it himself when asked about his success in San Antonio vs in NYC. He said if he and Tim Duncan would have accomplished what they did in San Antonio in New York instead they would be legends. He later apologized but I don't know why. He is absolutely right. It is not anything against the city of San Antonio or its people. I am sure they are great but NYC, LA, Chicago is the #1, #2 & #3 biggest media market in the Country. So there are more eyes on the TV set when those teams are successful. The ratings spiked during Linsanity and they fighting for the freaking 8th seed...haha So if you do not root for the Spurs (probably because you don't live there) doesn't necessary mean you do not understand basketball. It just mean you'd rather go do something else since you don't have a horse in the race. Now that the Lakers are gone and the summer is rolling in some people in LA will turn their attention to the Dodgers, the Kings or head out to the beach. Summer is also concert season. People in NYC & Chicago will do the same. It's nothing personal nor is it a lack of basketball knowledge.

    Let me break down this.

Media never hyped or bashed them, never was drama around them. Duncan and company were quiet all the time while guys like Kobe Lebron melo etc were hated, talked loved etc... Nothing was too interesting with Spurs and Duncan. They dont have athletic players as well. They play great basketball no doubt but thats not the finish line.

Fans want to see someting intriguing not quit team, with no pressure.

Honestly, all it took was for 2 or 3 people to say it on a sports network and all of a sudden the whole damn country is bored with the Spurs. I guess the Wizards, T Wolves, and Blazers are exciting enough that nobody says anything about them.

Fans nowadays don't like basketball unless it is fast-paced, I like to watch the Spurs play cause they actually do play fancy sometimes

That's not possible so whoever said that isn't a real fan
