What's a pteranodon?

What kind of prehistoric animal was a pteranodon? I know it lived in dinosaur times, what was it, and is there any difference between a pteranodon and a pterodactyl or are they both the same thing? :(

Pteranodon is a genus of pterosaur. Pterosaur is a general term used to describe flying reptiles. Pterodactyl is the common name for a different genus of pterosaurs, and the genus name is Pterodactylus. Most lay people think that pterodactyl is synonymous with pterosaur but that is not true because the name pterodactyl is not applicable to other genera of pterosaurs, such as Pteranodon for example.

Pterosaurs are generally regarded as close relatives of dinosaurs, but they are not classified as dinosaurs. Pterosaurs have wings made of skin, attached to a single grotesquely elongated finger. They were flying animals, and they are not closely related to birds.

Pteranodon is a genus of pterosaurs which included some of the largest known flying reptiles, with wingspans over 6 metres (20 ft). It existed during the late Cretaceous geological period of North America in present day Kansas, Alabama, Nebraska, Wyoming, and South Dakota. A Pterodactyl refers specifically to members of the genus Pterodactylus, and more broadly to members of the suborder Pterodactyloidea
