Does anyone know if mite predators will kill bird mites?
I have a bird mite infestation in my car and I can't bomb it (so the professionals say).
I'm about to get rid of my car, but if I put something like mesoselulus longpipes in my car, will they eventually eat them?
And Bill. These things can live up to 8 months with no host. I want to get in my car sooner. And you are wrong about the fact they only like birds. They infest people their homes and people have them for 10 years, so please do your research before you call me a troll. I'm a highly educated woman and your insult is just wrong.

My husband raised pigeons & chickens for 60 years. I have raised parrots for almost as many years. Every once in a while, since some of his pigeons were free flyers his coop would become infested with mites. I never ever got any in the house with my parrots nor did I ever hear of bird mites infesting a car or anyplace there were not birds. Are you sure they are bird mites and not red spiders or something else? Well anyhow since you do not want to use insecticides, I would vacuum the car very thoroughly several times including trunk. Leave it out in the hot sun so the interior gets pretty hot. That might kill the bugs. If that doesn't work you will probably have to use some sort of insecticide. I wouldn't introduce anymore bugs if it was my car.

I would advise calling your local wildlife rehabilitation center. If you cannot find one, call a local vet or animal control office, they should have a contact number. Feeding baby birds is difficult and time consuming, even more so if you don't know what kind it is and what it eats. Unless you are willing to get up at dawn, and feed the bird every 1/2 - 1 hour, clean up after it, etc., until the sun goes down, it is best to take it to a rehabber. They will know what kind it is, have the proper food for it, and be able to put it in with others of its kind, if it is a flocking bird. Please consider contacting a rehabber. If you are truly interested in helping raise orphaned birds, perhaps you could volunteer for them.

Get rid of your car. Nothing kills them except salt baths and borax baths. My car was infested and the only thing that helped was to rip out the cloth seats, carpet and headliner and replace it with vinyl and leather. I have no flooring except rubber floor mats. I couldn't afford to replace the car. Don't forget to vent out all the air ducts and channels and tape them up before you do this. After replacing use hepa filter to vent out air ducts again. Also steam clean everything, although it will not kill them completely but helps.
Good luck with the nightmare.
