I;d strongly advocate meditation. It can either quieten your mind or if you cant be fully quiet (i cant either) then it can be a great way to consider.questions in a relaxed yet proactive way.
Sit crossed legged on a soft surface, tongue touching the roof of your mouth, breath comfortably through your nose, straight back and level head, hands in some symmetrical formation - whatever suits. The key is also to be open and honest with your thoughts - this can help you form plans or even better just be at peace with your situation.
Best of luck...

1. Take a hot bath approximately 15 minutes before the time that you would like to sleep. The drop of body temperature will help induce sleep.
2. Do some exercises approximately 20 minutes before you sleep. Exercises not only helps use up excess energy, but is proven to help reduce mental stress, thus making sleeping easier and inducing deeper sleep.
