I can't tell if I like this guy or if I'm just desperate... Should I even date him if I do?

I think I might like this one guy. I think he likes me too. I can't tell if I even like him or I'm just desperate. When he might have tried kissing me, my heart was beating really fast. I think about him at times too. My family knows him, and not all of them like him. I'm friends with his younger sister too. My cousin is friends with him as well as I. We all do a form a material arts together. Would it be weird if we dated and such? What if we broke up, would it mess things up? Would it mess up friendships and things if we did go out?
