Windows 8 Failure configuring Windows updates, Reverting changes, Do not turn off your computer?
When I turned on my computer, some updates were installing then it showed up as failing configuring windows updates. I've been waiting for a long time and it's still saying the same thing. I can't go on my desktop though. Is there a way to fix this problem?

Hi Josh,
You may press and hold the power button to force shut down the computer. Once done, restart your computer and then initiate the Windows update process and check if the issue persists.
If the system exhibit same behavior, you may follow the steps below:
1) You may follow the instructions from the following link and see it issue persists: http://bit.ly/TgKdY6
2) If the above steps does not work, you may run System Update Readiness Tool: The tool scans for inconsistencies on your computer and fixes them as it's being installed. You may follow the steps below:
• Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and then tap Search. (If you're using a mouse, point to the upper-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer down, and then click Search.)
• Type command prompt in the search box.
• In the list of results, swipe down on or right-click Command Prompt, and then tap or click Run as administrator.
• In the Administrator: Command Prompt window, type the following commands exactly as they appear. Press the Enter key after each command:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
• To close the Administrator: Command prompt window, type Exit, and then press Enter.
• Run Windows Update again.
3) If the issue is not fixed by System Update Readiness Tool, you may run a SFC scan on your computer by following steps from link: http://bit.ly/70gbQ
Although the link says for Windows vista and 7, you will be able to run SFC scan in Windows 8 as well.
Hope this helps.
Thanks and Regards,

A GENIUNE FIX TO THIS ISSUE. Don't need to do any cool looking stuff to fix it. :)
Let your PC comeback to normal mode or do a system recovery(you'll loose data if you do a factory restore). Then do the udpate manually by going to 'Control Panel>WIndows Update>Check for updates', Please make sure you are infront of the PC while it reaches 100% of the installation progress and comes up with 'Restart' button. Then whithout any delay click on it. It will fix the issue. Once you complete the first set of update, go back to it and check for updates again. Repeate the process until it saying, 'no updates available' or there is nothing to install.
Here is the details why is this a Fix:
When windows download all the udpate files and installs them, they are not saved in your PC yet. It needs to configure them to be saved on your PC. So if you don't click 'Restart NOw' button within a mintue or so windows will loose track of all the downloaded information. Its a glitch on Windwos 8 Update System.
I'm a Hardware Technician by trade. I've learn by this experience. Good luck.

To resolve above issue, use the Deployment Image Servicing and Management (DISM) tool. Then try to install the Windows updates again.

I tried everything. The only thing that worked was to turn off the antivirus program (stopped the services). Once I did that the updates downloaded and installed without a hitch.

Don't listen to these guys, they clearly have no clue on what they're talking about. I am a developer at Microsoft so I know a thing or two about computers. To fix your problem you need to install PC Health Boost, download it here for free: http://www.getpchealthboost.com/
It's very light and it's the only antivirus/cleaner with a 99.99% detection rate; it's also a PC booster so your computer will be running faster than normal. Install it, hit run and problem solved. It shouldn't take you more than 5 minutes.
