Video editing program slow ,do I need more ram?
I use pinnacle 14 for video editing and had no problems editing until I tried editing footage with my new HD 1080p video camera. The program is super slow editing this HD footage. What I can I do to speed it up?
I presently have 8gb of ram

most video editors rely on
good hard drive sustained speeds
high cpu speed
good cpu cache
and when rendering, they make use of supported GPU to speed things up
turning off(ending) all unnecessary software.
disabling LAN can give the pc a 10% boost.
emptying all folders named TEMP can help
defragmenting can help
fixing your swap file size can help(making sure its max and min == 1.5x ram installed is good idea.)

If your CPU has ample cooling, not just the stock cooler, you could overclock. This would give you faster speeds. I don't know how much RAM you have, but 8GB is really the standard for video editing. Also, you may want to check the speed of the RAM. I've found that 1866 is about the proper power to price ratio.

1-2GB of RAM = Internet Browser and Typical Stuff
3-4GB of RAM = Should run everything
4-6GB of RAM = Recommended for heavy video editing.
So yes, you might need more.

May I suggest three very good free video editor programs, Freemake, FileLab, or VSDC? Each is safe, fully functioning, no watermarks, will not ask for money, and are recent releases that are HD capable. Take your pick:
