Did I get ripped off buying this laptop?

A friend (who knows his computer) sold me this a year and a half old laptop for $400, originally wanted $500. But I'm not sure if I got ripped off. It seems like I did after some research.

Here are some information based on the laptop:

Manufacturer: Hewlett-Packard

Model: HP 2000 Notebook PC

Processor: AMD E-350 Processor 1.60 GHz

RAM: 4 GB (3.6 Gb usable)

System type: 64-bit Operating System

Window 7 Home Premium

And some pics. It's not as focused, but it should do:

Sorry, I don't really know anything but computers and I'd really appreciate it if anyone could help me.

I'm looking for a laptop--usually will be used for school (university), read manga and watch drama.

Thank you!!!!

Update:

He said he upgraded it a bit like with the graphics(?).

But I will talk to him.

I'll see what he says first.

Update 2:

1.6 APU

Video card 1456 gb

Hard drive 500 gb

screen: 15.1 inch

plays video on full hd 1080

Rip off thats a strong word. It is quite an old model though in not very good condition. He suddenly went down very quickly $100. All I will say is he got a good price for it.

But its not a bad machine for school work, multimedia I do not know, Shared Graphics card? Probably Intel. You could get a fairly decent modern one for that same price heres a guide. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olstemplatemapper.jsp?...

That's pretty steep. Similar used HP 2000 laptops (both condition and specs) seem to go for about $200 on Ebay.

You kinda did get ripped off, 500 dollars could get you a quite better machine with an Intel i3 or I5.

Ya,you got ripped off. That laptop is worth well under $100.It's warranty has ended and most of the parts might have been worn out.

Yeah, you got ripped off. 400 bucks for a used laptop that that cost 400 bucks new and was a crappy one when new.
