    (4-k)/(2-5) = 2 ; 2(2-5) = 4-k; 4 - 10 = 4 - k; k = 4 + 6 = 10

    slope = rise / run

    rise = change in y value

    run = change in x value

    rise = k - 4

    run = 5-2 = 3

    now solve the slope

    2 = (k-4)/3

    multiply both sides by 3

    6 = (k-4)

    solve for k

    k = 6 + 4 = 10

    so that is how its done..

    (k - 4) / 3 = 2

    k - 4 = 8

    k = 12

    m = (y2 - y1)/(x2 - x1)

    2 = (k - 4)/(5 - 2)

    2 = (k - 4)/3

    multiply both sides by 3:

    6 = k - 4

    add 4 to both sides:

    k = 10

    x1 = 2

    y1 = 4

    x2 = 5

    y2 = k

    m = 2

    (y2 - y1) / (x2 - x1) = m:

    (k - 4) / (5 - 2) = 2

    (k - 4) / 3 = 2

    k - 4 = 3(2)

    k - 4 = 6

    k = 6 + 4

    k = 10
