Can you download kindle books to a nook?

Kindle books are DRM protected, and they need to be read on dedicated device or apps. Removal of DRM protection is a federal crime.
So if you're having a Nook ebook reader. it can't install any app, so it can't read Kindle books.
However, if you have one of the Nook tables (like Nook Color, Nook HD, etc.), you can install the Kindle app on it, to read Kindle books. Here you can find an actual user experience on using the Kindle app on the Nook, as well as other features:

Just to add, in case you're choosing between the Nook and the Kindle, I think it's better to go for the Kindle. Amazon is giving better support on their device, including content, customer service, etc. The Nook is losing money, and I'm not sure if they'll still be there after a few years.

I don't think so. Kindle books come from Amazon while Nooks come from Barnes and Noble.
Unfortunately a lot of people are publishing on Amazon, which at this point, I might as well buy a Kindle.

If that's a Nook tablet (Nook HD), it will be ok as long as there is Kindle for Android app installed.
Otherwise, you can't. Kindle books come in protected Kindle formats. If you insist, you can use tools (Epubor Kindle DRM Removal) to strip the protection, then convert the unprotected Kindle books to Nook supported EPUB.

No. They use competing record formats and DRM schemes. Books from Amazon won't be able to be study on Nooks and books from B&N won't be able to be study on Kindles. Conversion would not paintings because of DRM (and stripping that's a federal crime).

No. The Nook cannot read the format used by Amazon, plus the files are protected by DRM that cannot be read by the Nook.

Non kindle devices usually allow access to your local library, Android standard lets you get to Project Guttenburg free books, Kindle you must pay.
