How to defend a great player?
Next year, ill be going head to head with a player in our zones. He recently made the BC provincial team and he absolutely killed us in this years zones. I got to defend him for a while and actually did a pretty good job on him as he never scored once. Hes a very good 3 point shooter. He can drive and has great handle as well but his main weapon is his 3 point shot. What should i do to defend him? And what drills will make my defensive slides faster?

I was a college player myself and to be a good defender you need good speed and strength. Practice just jumping. Do any kind of jumping exercise you can to build up muscle in your legs so you can block his shots. When he is on the three point line don't guard him very closely stand about a step away so if he drives you can get in front. No player would pass up and open layup for a 3-point. Stay down low in a defensive position, you can do wall sits or squats to help with this. Figure out what hand he is more comfortable with and never give in the open lane to the basket on that side. When you're guarding him don't stare at the ball, look at his stomach; his center. It all depends on the situation, the score, the size of you both. I would also ask you coach for suggestions.
