Did we all underestimate the Indian team? What do you think of this new Indian team?

BQ: Do you think IPL did good or bad to Cricketers like Dhawan and Jadeja? And what's your opinion about Rohit Sharma?

Heaven forbid! Let's look at India's performances in England since 1983. That year they won the World Cup in...England. In 1986 they won a Test Series here, as they also did in 2007, along with the One Day series. Didn't they also draw the series they played here in 2002? Sure it all went pear shaped in 2011 but that was only one tour, it hasn't happened on every tour.

It's good to see that they have moved on and are experimenting more with younger, fitter, players. Some of those who have retired were legends but all things must pass. The Chakra Wheel is turning!

The thing that might stop them though is we're in a transition phase from early to mid season, which might mean a change in pace on the pitches as the tournament progresses.

    Edit:

Sorry, I forgot the BQ. It's difficult to tell. Jadeja is one of the most improved players in Test cricket since the ODI's with England and the Test series with Australia. I don't know if that's down to IPL or just personal maturity. Perhaps the IPL has helped them both in the shorter formats but time will tell with regards to Test's. It might because success usually breeds success but the jury is still out at the moment.

We didn't have any choice now did we?? The last time India played an ODI was in early 2013 & that was against England in the home series. Now Veeru, Ghauti, Yuvi, Zaheer, Nehra are all out & new personnel have come in. It wasn't something we could have predicted but the selectors have made some sweeping changes keeping the 2014 WC in mind!

Its a refreshing change now for Rohit Sharma's **** a hoop after his success in the recently concluded IPL 2013, 6th edition. Plus he's taken the added responsibility of baulking the side!Shikhar Dhawan should always have been testing Ghauti's spot since 2006, when Ghauti started failing in his average, his (Shikhar's) entry has come late into the Indian side but better late than never! He's a swashbuckling player & is looking like the combined strength of Viru+Ghauti in the CT 2013! Jadeja has a point to prove besides some contributions in the lower order will be crucial in low scoring games. Dhoni, Raina can both guide him as seasoned pros. India pulled a rabbit out of the hat picking Dinesh Karthick, he's firing on all cylinders now & is a 2nd keeper option

So the Indian team's batting is awesome but a major Achilles heel is in the bowling…the last win was by a very few runs & many bowlers didn't distinguish themselves, mainly Ishant & Umesh. Jadeja & Raina did well to put the brakes on the scoring, so that may be the way to go forward. A strong pacer like Shami Ahmed was needed for this outing

no doubt that the latest ipl spot fixing has earned a bad name for indian cricket. But IPL has also given much needed exposure and experience to young players not only from India but from across the world.

After the much celebrated Mumbai Indians IPL win has given immense confidence to the young players link Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan and many more.

Who the hell underestimated Indian team..?

And definitely IPL is good for young cricketers. It provides the platform which ends to the selection in the Indian team.

And Rohit Sharma and Shikhar, the new openers for India..they rock.

Obviously, not all of us. There were some like selection committee that had not underestimated them. As for Rohit, he is a gifted batsman. Dhawan is a genius of a batsman. Jadeja is an unknown quantity still. Yes. after seeing some of the foreign players' performance in IPL, and after our dismal performance in England earlier, many of us did not have an appreciable estimate. Still, our bowling dept. is bad. It can be telling only if Ishant Sharma comes good.

Now, compare this team with Saurav Ganguli lead 2000 team to SA where we reached finals and lost to the greatest cricket team ever assembled (Oz), I think we have reason not over value this team.

I wonder what prompted you to under estimate Indians. Just out of curiosity. They are no:1 one day side. They are seeded No: 2 In Champions Trophy.OK. Any way they are good side. IPL is open for all . So saying It helped Dhawan and Jadeja Is Correct but it helped in extablishing themselves financially. Rohit sharma is a class player lacking in confidance.

No, I never underestimated India. It was much like what I expected of them. Nothing out of sorts.

Dhawan is a huge run scorer for Delhi in the Ranji matches. He would have been in the team sooner or later. The IPL has certainly helped bits and pieces cricketers like Jadeja though. I would admit that I have now more respect for him both as a bowler and a batsman.

Rohit Sharma is a very talented cricketer. He, alongwith Dinesh Karthik play the most elegant shots among those in the Indian team. That is because both of them are technically sound. What they lack is consistency, which will come through determination. Rohit showed that today. Good for him. I have always maintained that he is as talented a batsman as anyone is.

Ya we all at some point do it but some of are smart to understand that the players deal with a lots of pressure on the field which forces them to take quick witted decisions.

I think that the present India team is the best till now and i think this combination can rule out the world of cricket at least till 2015.

IPL is surely good for cricketers bcoz they can decide to be in benches or in field during the IPL matches so during injuries they can have a good treatment.Anybody thinking IPL as a suckin thing is really not using his sense.Spot fixing of 3 players doesn't prove that the whole league of 207 players is corrupted.Evry1 has got their ri8 to speak bt i think IPL has brought out some real talents.

IPL did good to evry cricketer as they hv got their own right to decide to play the matches.

Every team can be in-form for a particular period. You can't judge India's performance from a single form. If India lost in swinging conditions they are not used to it or they did not have the ideal bowlers. But now they have Umesh Yadav and Ishant Sharma. Also the Indian fielding has improved much significantly after Raina's return.

According to me IPL is pure entertainment and even though talent is exposed in it. IPL has a much dirtier side we've never expected. Rohit Sharma is coming back to form which is a big relief for Indian cricket fans like us. Best of luck India!!!

I am not exactly sure if anyone has ever underestimated the Indian team. They have given amazing performances in ODIs. They aren't to be underestimated at all.

The new Indian team is superb. I think the reason to this is that each player has had time to settle which due to the fact that the selectors have not changed the entire face of the team in one go. They have made subtle changes, you know one or two at a time.

yes it do did good for players like dhawan and jadeja as both of them played nice and cooperrated with the team and helped the team in serious conditions.but rohit sharma did do all his best only in some matches he played well but he was good as a captain.so he should be made the vice captain
