Leaving a 3-month-old dog behind when we go on holidays?

We still don't have the dog, but today we learned that we will on the middle of August. It will be an Old German Shepherd. The problem is, we already planned our holidays (since january) at the beginning of October, that means, we will have the dog for around 5 weeks, and then go on holidays for a week when it is 3 month old :/

I think after 5 weeks of having it at home, and then leaving it in a boarding kennel, would be very hard for the puppy. Unfortunately we can't count on our relatives, cause they live far away or just can't take care of pets. Maybe can we get a friend to do us the favor, but it's not sure.

So, what do you think? Which problems could we get when we're back? I mean, in behaviour or so, or is there no a problem at all? Any advice?

The best solution here is to sort it out with the breeder before you take the pup. Most good breeders would be quite happy to take the dog back for a week and without a doubt that would be the best solution.

You know you have a problem, but one week is not too bad. Leave a cloth with your smells on it, including your own pee and feces in his kennel.

He may not be happy for a while once out of the pro kennel, but will shape up if you are his master. Otherwise he will own you. hee hee.

If you have any neighbors around ask them; or maybe their children and stock up on food, and treats and give them 100$ and tell them to check on him an brin him out or look online/in the paper for a dog watcher ad.
