Both are worth a try. You can start with a free site. I recommend OkCupid. POF is not very good in my experience.

Paid sites like Match and eHarmony are better. They have better features and the people who subscribe are more serious about finding someone.

Your results may vary. Many of these free dating sites are usually where the creeps and scumbags hang out, looking for a one night stand or an escape from marital life. In fact, one of my friends met a guy on there, and things seemed to be going well until a month after when she discovered he was married and had 2 kids. I have used Plenty of Fish several times before and it has a rather unsavory reputation....many of the women I have encountered are trashy and overly flirtatious, so I assume most of the guys on there are just the same. I'm thinking your chances of finding a guy who is true and sincere through online dating is few and far between. As far as determining whether or not they are a deranged psychopath, well you'll just have to use your best judgement on that....keep your dates public and avoid going back to each others places until you can make a fair assumption on who you are dating. you have to get to know people you can't just select a guy as if they are sitting on a shelf waiting to be cooked for dinner. your treating it like a selection process as if all men on a particular site have been checked for freshness and have a seal of approval.

it just don't work that way. i bet there are plenty of great guys in your town but you might be in love with a particular type.

right... wrong. forget about free matchmaker sites. find a good man by learning to communicate with men. hiding behind a computer screen and rolling the dice is a fools game. there are plenty of good men nearby your home. I'm certain of it.

I wouldn't go near that. I know there's been a whole lot of dating sites, and if you heard a lot of bad reviews/complaints about it, then you shouldn't find a good person to be with in those sites..

Be careful, who you meet, not every person is who they seem to be. Just be aware of that. There are plenty of reason why people go to dating sites. So they can find relationship. But just try to learn more about them, and make sure that's who they are... You can't judge a person by their appearance. All it matter most, is personality. You should pay attention on that person's reputation because not everyone is who they seem to be.
