beatles white album - can you help?

i have been looking at the beatles white album on ebay and a lot of the listings state the album is toploader - what is a toploader?

    Original vinyl copies had the opening at the top of the sleeve instead of the side. These copies are quite rare and worth more money.

    I'm not exactly sure? Are you looking at old vinyl records? I know a toploader is the plastic case they use for baseball cards to keep them crisp and protect the edges from damage. It keeps them in excellent condition. Maybe they have them for records as well? I had the White album on white vinyl with the poster and all four pictures. It was ruined in Hurricane Katrina :(
