Why am I not allowed to have nail polish at my job?!?
I am a cashier at Taco Bell.
I have done a little bit of research and so far have not found any hard evidence on nail polish causing any bacteria growth or any other negative health effects. I don't even directly work with the food! I have french tip acrylics on and they said those were fine...
I just don't get it.
Also-
At first they weren't too keen on me having acrylics but when I don't have fake nails I bite mine out of anxiety. I get really bad and they often bleed... Which poses a HUGE health concern and would be gross for customers to look at. As long as I am scrubbing under my nails, and washing/ sanitizing them hourly.. Why is it a concern??

Sorry to say - it doesn't matter if you agree - or "get it" or not.
If it's their policy and you want to work there - then you have to abide by the rules they have.
Just because you bite your nails and bleed is no reason for them to change the policy. That's a personal issue - not one the big Taco Bell corporation is going to change for.
It's a concern because polish can chip and fall into food. It's a concern because fake nails can fall off into the food.
Yes, you may be doing what you can to minimize the risk. That doesn't mean EVERYONE does.
So your argument about scrubbing and all that doesn't hold water - so to speak.
Apparently they are making some kind of exception for you and the acrylics - why I don't know. Could be the local store choice - and they could be going against corporate policy.
So be grateful for that. And not to be too harsh - quit whining about it.

I worked at a Coldstone Creamery, and the main reason we weren't allowed to wear nail polish was because they want to avoid the risk of your nail polish chipping and falling into the food. Restaurants and other food service establishments will go out of their way to make sure the food stays uncontaminated by foreign objects. Say that your nail broke while you were working and it fell into someone's food. If they bite into it, they will be extremely grossed out and it can get the restaurant into big trouble. The rules are there for a reason - and it's most likely because incidents like that have happened before. It's really not a big deal to go without nail polish for a while.
