question about spark plugs and wires?
I'm doing an ignition refurb on my car: new plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor. I just opened the box containing the wire set and it includes a little tube of PTFE silicone compound. What is this for? Am I supposed to coat the wires with it, or what?
Also, is it still considered good practice to put a drop of motor oil on the threads of new spark plugs or should they go in dry?
Thanks.

The other answer about putting the silicone in the boots for the plugs is correct. It keeps the boots from sticking. It certainly does NOT help the electrical contacts, as another answer said.
Putting plugs in dry is not such a good idea. I have used an anti-seeze product for many years. I started after breaking off a plug that someone else had put in without anti-seeze. Nuf said?
Using oil or any other lube on the plugs is a bad idea. That is made to lubricate, not to prevent sticking.

Spark plugs go in dry, the silicone is for putting on the boots before connecting to spark plug. I would change one spark plug wire at a time. messing with vehicles 49 yrs
