My retainer didn't fit so my orthodontist did this...?
My retainer broke and my teeth moved so my orthodontist made a stronger 'special instruction' retainer, it didn't fit, I tried to put it in, the nurse tried to put it in, the orthodontist tried to put it in, still didn't fit at all. So he sawed down my front teeth some and then jammed it in and told me to go home, not to take it off for so many hours, and to take ibuprofen.
I hurt so much I sobbed. The ibuprofen made it bearable.
I just wondered if this was normal, it doesn't seem like the best method to use to move teeth back in place, but I'm not an orthodontist so maybe it's the only method their is. Did anyone else's orthodontist do that? I've heard of orthodontists giving people a series of retainers to slowly move teeth, that would be another method that gives the same results right?
I had braces, they have been off for over 2 years, but I broke my retainer and before I could get into the orthodontist my teeth shifted back.

If this was a retainer you get after braces and it broke he should have been able to make a new mold and make a new one. If you had invisalign where you have a series of retainers and keep the last one as your final retainer then that he probably would have had to re do the whole series. I would have gone to another ortho for a second opinion. It sounds like you have/had invisalign so hopefully you will be happy with your new smile. In the future make sure you do your research and ask questions on how they do braces and other treatments. Don't be afraid to ask questions! Have a good day!
