What is the best way for a lacto-vegetarian to eat hummus?

I have just recently converted to a lacto-vegetarian diet. And since I removed all animal flesh and eggs from my diet, I have been looking to add more variety to it. I have heard the hummus is very nutritious and taste good. So hopefully I can get good idea on ways to eat it or whats other vegetarian foods go good with it.

I typically eat hummus with chopped veggies or pita (which is usually vegan, read ingredients to be sure).

    Such veggies include:

    celery

    cucumber

    carrot

    broccoli

    lettuce

    bell pepper (any color)

Also, try falafel. Its a chickpea patty that I eat with lettuce and humus, and sometimes comes in a pita. Since you eat dairy, you could also eat falafel with tsatziki sauce (so yummy!).

Gelatine is found in some candy (mainly jellies) and is not vegetarian. If you like eating jelly sweets though you can still eat jelly beans which tend to use pectin as the gelling agent. Also, some red sweets are coloured with a red food dye called cochineal, another name for it is carmine. This is not vegetarian as it is made of crushed beetles eww! Another thing to watch out for is shellac which also comes from some kind of beetle. It is used as a glazing agent. In particular I have noticed that they tend to use it on chocolate coated nuts and raisins for some reason. In cheese the main thing to look for is rennet, an enzyme derived from calves stomachs. Most cheeses now use a synthetic version. Look for the vegetarian symbol on the packet. Your second question depends on your size. An 8stone person needs 38g protein per day, a 10stone person needs 48g protein per day, a 12 stone person needs 57g protein per day, so you can work out roughly what you need for your weight. High protein vegetarian foods are lentils, chickpeas, beans of all kinds, tofu, wholegrains (oats, rice etc), eggs and dairy products. Hope this is helpful!
