A question about outdoor rabbit and fleas?

I got a rabbit last april and since its nice outside (in ohio) , I built him an outdoor playpen. He has an indoor one now, he spends about an hour each day monday-friday and about 2-3hours on the weekends. Anyways, the outdoor playpen is verysafe, it has a top and I or someone else in my family will watch him the entire hour. I know fleas are a bit of a problem in ohio and I was wondering what to do to aviod fleas on my rabbit. I do not want to bring them into the house when I put him back in his cage. Would fleas even affect him?? Any information would be helpful!!

You need to talk to your rabbit vet about this. It depends on your area, and your local rabbit vet will know how to advise you.

Chances are that mites are a bigger issue than fleas. Rabbits have pretty dense fur and clean a great deal, so fleas don't seem to "stick" much. Mites could be an issue and you wouldn't even notice until you start trying to pick up "bun" and get chewed up yourself.

Anyway, your vet will be the best help.

My rabbit lived outside for seven years without a cage and never got fleas.

Good on ya for bringing your rabbit outside! But if he ever gets flea's bring him to a vet.

    Hope that helped :)
