Brazilian Portuguese speakers, can you help me out with this?
I'm looking at a study guide for past subjunctive and conditional verbs and was conjugating sentences, but I've stumbled onto a problem ...
Se os meninos pudessem (poder), eles _________ (surfar) no Rio de Janeiro.
Does "surfar" mean surf? I'm confused .... how would I conjugate this to make sense?

Actually, "iriam surfar" doesn't fit in this sentence. The right one would be "surfariam".
"Surfariam" means that they would like to go surfing if they could. "Iriam surfar" sounds like they went surfing, but something unexpected happened and they were unable to do it.
Another exemples on when to use would/could in Portuguese:
- Se eu pudesse, comeria chocolate todo dia.
- Eu sairia essa noite se já não tivesse compromisso.
- Você poderia ter estudado para a prova, mas não quis.
- Eles poderiam ter ido de avião, mas preferiram ir de trem.
Hope it helps. Good luck on your studies!

"Surfar" is the verb of surf in Portuguese, so you will put "-ria" in the end of word the same way in other verbs, in other word, it will be "surfaria"
"Se os meninos pudessem (poder), eles surfariam (surfar) no Rio de Janeiro." In English: If the boys could, they would surf in Rio de Janeiro.
*Surfariam because it's plural

yes exactly sufar mean surf in Enlglish, you can trust me 'cause I'm from Brazil!!
so the correct phase is:
Se os meninos pudessem, eles surfariam no Rio de janeiro. but we do't use surfariam we use iriam sufar!!
If the boys could, they Would surf on(or in dunno) Rio de janiero.
Well, you can see that surfariam or iriam surfa is Would surf in english
gostariam- would like
Falariam- would speak...
So,What do you think about my English?? if you want,we can study together??
I'm Brazilian and I'm 16 years!
