Roman Catholic. an infant is brought to the priest with their parents and two or three god parents. these all promise to bring the child up with the knowledge of God. then the priest takes the child and sprinkles its head with water from the font and says I baptise you in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit then passes the infant back to the parents.

Orthodox. an adult takes lessons from a minister so they understand that baptism is a commitment to God that they want to be saved. then they enter water which is bigger than a bath but smaller than a swimming pool (sometimes a river or stream) then after saying they commit their lives to God and Christ they are lowered bodily in the water until they are covered. on rising they have been baptised.

Source(s): Had one child (Roman Catholic)and two adult baptisms' (different denominations) myself. think only person to have done this.

Both baptize adults and infants. There is a mild difference in wording, but nothing of importance. The only mild difference is that except at Easter, Roman Catholics tend to baptize infants outside the Sunday mass as a separate event. In the Eastern Church there is no uniformity of whether or not to baptize in the Sunday service or as a separate service. Some priests baptize as part of the Divine Liturgy, the Sunday service, and some jurisdictions do it as a separate service.

How people are baptized also is jurisdictional. Most places sprinkle, some dunk and there have been recorded cases of using no water in a desert during an emergency where no water was available by raising the baby in the air in the sign of the cross.

The actual ritual is differs slightly in wording because of the geographical distance between the ancient churches, but the content is fundamentally the same.

the adjustments are not many yet i comprehend one is that the Greek Orthodox do not believe contained in the primacy of Peter because the first between equals, yet there are various of issues that adventure in that the Greek Orthodox believe contained in the real presence contained in the eucharist that's necessary. The schism between the Greek Orthodox and Roman Catholic Church replaced into extra of a political split then a theological split. both have valid apostolic successions. Catholics evaluate the orthodox to be the second one lung of a similar body and faster or later both churches turns into one back. you are able to locate that kinfolk are commencing to get hotter because this replaced into the first time in centuries that an orthodox bishop attended the ceremony of a pope in the course of the election of pope Francis .

the official formula is . "I baptize you in the name of the father, and of the son and of the holy spirit." as long as this is spoken the liturgy can be altered to suit different cultures. the full immersion or sprinkling of the water are both valid.
