Enthalpy of dissociation and bond enthalpy?

Could somebody please clarify for me what the link between the two is?

Basically in a question you're given "Enthalpy of atomisation of chlorine = +121"

Then they ask you to calculate the bond enthalpy of a Cl-Cl bond. The answer they give is 242. I can see that's twice the enthalpy of atomisation of Cl, but I don't understand why.

Thanks for your help!

Because the +121 is of 1 chlorine, whereas the bond has two chlorine. To calculate the enthalpy, you simply multiply it by two. Sometimes problems are quite simple, but we over think it. Hope it helps :)

I think its the same. If they telll u the enthalpy of one cl, then two will ve double
