a question about guns and having a felony?

ok i was 13 when i got a felony for theft im 21 now. my friend tried telling my that any felony on record and you cant own a handgun or any gun for that matter. is that true? because if so that retarded that a pack of ciggs 8 years ago before i was even out of puberty, can determine wether i am responsible for a gun

    First, you would never have been charged with a felony for just stealing a pack of cigarettes - so you did something much more serious than THAT.

    And frankly, being as it was such a serious crime, as a citizen I DON'T CARE that it was 8 years ago. If you were that stupid back then I don't believe that 8 years cured you.

    Once a felon always a felon.

    See United States Code Title 18, Part I, Chapter 44, Section 922: "Firearms, Unlawful Acts" is a summary of conditions that disqualify a person from firearm possession or ownership.

    Federal law prohibits anyone that has a felony conviction from owning or possessing a firearm unless that felony conviction has been expunged or set aside.
