Why do people believe blacks vote for Obama because he is black?
I have heard some people say that back voters voted for Obama because he is black - sometimes implying that blacks will vote more for the GOP in 2016 simply because Obama won't be on the ticket. The last GOP presidential candidate to get more than 10% of the black vote was Ronald Reagan. The last one to get above 15% was Nixon in 1960. Why would a community that voted over 90% for John Kerry, Al Gore, and Mike Dukakis be accused of voting for Obama because he was black? Whether you consider it good or bad, looking at empirical data seems to show that whoever the Democratic nominee is in 2016 will get over 90% of the black vote regardless of their race.

Obama received 3% - 5% more black votes than any previous Democratic candidate. In addition, the percentage of black voters who turned out to vote in 2008 and 2012 was higher than previous elections as well. So Obama received a double advantage: a slighter higher percentage of black votes and a higher percentage of black voter turnout. So it doesn't follow that the GOP will necessarily get (m)any extra black votes in 2016. A more likely scenario is that black voter turnout will decline to pre-Obama levels.

I agree well more then 90% of the black community will vote Democrat no matter who is on the ticket so we conservative must accept the fact that a little less then 13% of the vote in America is lost to us and I also believe we can live with that so no need to even try an court that vote
We Conservative should also keep that in mind when dealing with blacks on a personal and business level

first... you're talking percentages of registered voters vs. actual numbers of voters... for example, more blacks in traditional Republican strongholds like South Carolina voted than in the previous decades... Why was that?
but here's the thing...
...In the wake of his 2008 victory, there were a couple university studies on race and the elections... quite interestingly, all these studies focused on how many people voted AGAINST Obama because of his race... As far as I know, not a single study was reported in the mass media that presented the number of people who said they voted FOR Obama with race as a primary factor...
...now why was that?
Certainly as an impartial study, that number would be interesting...but it wouldn't ever be "impartial" would it? And there's the problem... That this study was never done... or if done, never reported...exposes some legitimate questions about the decisions being made for you by academics and the media.

"IF" you were a black Republican, & started messing with Yahoo Answers, in politics... You'd probably turn Democrat.... If you were a black Republican, & started listening to Fox News, or Rush-in, on the radio, you'd probably turn Democrat... The only way a black Republican, would remain a Republican... Would be if their some how related to big business, or insider stock market... The only other way they might remain a Republican... Is if they're a single issue voter, & in favor anti abortion, or anti homosexual issue... But in so many cases, just like homer J answer above... He seems to have no idea, there are no more southern Democrat states...

Because typically African American voters tend to vote 90% for the Democratic candidate in the past 50 years. After the Civil War most Black voters did vote Republican. Abraham Lincoln was a Republican President that faught so hard to get them their freedom. It runs in cycles.

This is not so much pro-democrats, but anti-GOP. Currently the GOP are not really for anyone who is not white and rich except for a token few. Which explains why they are suffering in the minority electorate. Race of the candidate really has nothing to do with it. It's just that their true colors are showing and they are lilly white.

Leading to 2008 elec, I found only 1 Black who knew ANYTHING about O, and he was voting against him.
Most believed he was going to rob ALL us Whites and give the Money to the Blacks.
*10% since Reagan? That would be to whom? the 2 Bushes?
This Kracker NEVER voted for a Bush, Klintoon, or Obewan.
