Do I need to tell my home state my out of state address?

We are an active duty military family, moving from TX to GA. We want to maintain our TX residency and plan to keep our cars registered in TX and our TX driver's licenses. Our registration is good for several years, as are our licenses, so we don't need to worry about how to update them. My question is: do I need to (and how do I?) notify Texas of our new out of state address? We will not have a physical address in TX while we are living in GA.

You can keep Texas as your home state

You do not need to notify them. As long as your W-2 and other tax records show you are from Texas. You will continue to pay whatever state tax Texas collects

Check with the Tx DMV on what there rules are.

Whether they require it or not, you should let them know your address. Otherwise, you won't get the renewal paperwork for your license or registrations. You should also let the board of elections know so you can get absentee ballots.

You don't need an address in TX. You will continue to vote based on where you have been voting. The DMV could probably care less. I'm stationed in one state with a drivers license from my state of residence that has an address from my last duty station printed on it (I notified the DMV of my current address, but don't need a new physical license).

TX may have different voter laws, but we are CA residents (in the military it is called home of record) although we have lived overseas and out of state for 15 years.

We still vote (absentee) in CA and use our current residence as our mailing address.

We keep our CA driver's licenses, although we have registered our motor vehicles in our current state.

That may be required in GA; you should check to be sure.

You do not have to notify TX of your residence address. However, if you own property there, you would want your tax bills to come to your current address.

Make sure that your taxes are withheld for TX.

    This is not necessary.

I am an active duty military soldier living in Oklahoma with my state home of record in Texas. All registrations and licenses for vehicles in Texas can be renewed over the internet, by mail, or by phone and sent to the address you currently reside in.
