Can a person with Major Depression own a gun?

I have Major depressive disorder, but it is well under control with antidepressants, and i would like to purchase a firearm for recreational use and possibly in the future (after proper training of course) another for self defense. Is it legal for me to own/purchase a gun in the state of Ohio?

If you have never been COMMITTED (not voluntarily entered for OBSERVATION) as a danger to yourself or others, deemed mentally unfit to stand trial, or otherwise legally adjudicated by a court, you are eligible for firearm ownership barring any felony convictions on your police record.

No, when you buy a gun you fill out a form that ask if you have any mental disorders. Checking yes will bar you from purchasing a gun. Major Depression leads to Suicide and your under a MD care, so you must answer yes and leave

Right now, a criminal can legally own a gun and all they have to do to get one is go to a gun show, find a table where they DON'T require background checks and buy the gun.

They can also get one through a person-to-person private sale whose owner of the gun doesn't ask for a background check.

Yes, I think so, but (I love guns, don't get me wrong) guns are only meant to kill people, and statistics show that people who own guns are more likely to use them on themselves rather than in self-defense.

Personally I've never EVER heard of an instance where a gun has actually lead to good things, never mind prevent bad things from happen other than in a war zone.

Well here is my opinion, When a person is in depression, or is manic, They should keep out of firearms. But when they are back to normal or calm that is when they could obtain firearms. When a person is depressed they have the feeling of suicide, But when manic they could be crazy or just mad.

You can own a gun, but I'd advise you to get help with your depression before you get the gun incase of suicidle intensions.

Not sure. when you buy a gun, one question for the background check askes if you have ever been in a mental hospital. i would ask at a gun shop.

yes you can... i have major depression as well and i own a gun. and i talked to my counselor about it, she informed me that they can not take my gun from me. she can at any given point inform the cops that i am thinking of harming myself. so you will be fine.
