Is it time for the Yankees to let Petite go?
He is a .500 pitcher with a 5+ ERA on a plus .500 team. His skills are down, his strength is down. He doesn't win the big games anymore. Time to say "Thanks for the memories?"

There is no way the Yankees can cut Pettitte without receiving a ton of backlash from the fans. That being said, he is still a serviceable lefty who eats innings and perhaps most importantly, who do the Yankees have to replace him right now?
I think its possible Pettitte retires at the end of the season, but the Yankees are better off with him on the team.

Actually his ERA is 4.20. He's still a valuable asset. A left-hander who can throw 6+ innings every time out. They don't have anyone else to put in the rotation, and if they did it should be Phil Hughes taken out. Pettitte may very well decide to leave permanently after the season, but it will be his choice, not because the Yankees forced him out the door.
