How to calculate class rank percentile?

So, I go to a school where we took 4 classes our first year. The weights of the different classes were 4, 5, 10, and 7 respectively. We have class avg and std dev for all 4 classes individually, but not overall. Now - can you just find the individual percentile for each class based on z-score, and then average the individual p-values based on the weights for each class? Or is it a more complicated calculation than that?

Update:

sorry, i guess i misused p-value. all I meant was when I look up the z-score in a chart to get a decimal, i used that decimal as the student "rank" as a percentile. then i did a weighted avg of all these percentiles to arrive at the class rank estimate. so if a student is 1 SD above the mean in all classes, they will have an estimated rank of 84th percentile.

You're using the phrase "p-value" in an unconventional way here. P-value typically refers to the probability of obtaining a more extreme result in a hypothesis test, which is not what you're doing here. What exactly do you mean by "p-value"?

EDIT: okay...now you're assuming that the scores are normally distributed. How do you know that?

If I understand correctly, you are looking for an overall class ranking. I don't think you can do that with the information you provided. You would also have to know something about the distribution of scores in each class. For example, the scores in class A could have a left skew and the scores in class B could have a right skew, etc... The best way to find a class rank is to look at an overall list of GPAs.
