What piano pieces should I learn?

It is the summer so I have an unimaginable amount of free time on my hands now and I have no idea what I will be learning over the summer because I don't have a teacher to direct me to any songs. I am almost done learning the first movement of Moonlight Sonata and I want to try to learn the third movement (which seems impossible). I want to learn something challenging like the beginning of Rachmaninoff Concerto No. 3 but I mean only the beginning because it is so long. can you list maybe ten songs that are a challenge (not as hard as the third movement of moonlight sonata of course!) and that has a lot of dynamics and a fast pace with much emotion. not something so happy. something very minor and interesting for that every note has meaning and it keeps the listener's attention. any song ideas would be much appreciated :)

The third movement IS impossible from the point of view of the first movement, Moonlight... Forget that. Learn the second moment of Moonlight instead, as it is simpler to understand. As you get better at it, you may even get to the proper tempo of it (which is kind of lively, listen to any recording of the second movement). Practice on Clair de Lune by Debussy, which is not so fast, but is extremely emotional. Also by Debussy is a set of pieces called 'Children's Corner Suite': work on trying to play the ones that are not so hard as the others. (Yes, I am a fan of Debussy, but you also learn how to read lots of 'accidentals' when practicing Debussy, so it's good reading practice to play them.) But the ones that are too hard, probably are too hard. Put them down! Try various pieces by Chopin; if they appear to be too hard, put them down too, and try the easier Chopin pieces instead. You'll recognize which ones are which as you go through them and try them out....

The person above has recommended some songs already, so I won't repeat anything he's said. I'll just add to that, I'd highly recommend Chopin's Nocturne's. Extremely beautiful pieces, not so fast paced some of them, but there is so much emotion in them. Chopin's Nocturne's are characterised by the fact that every single note has meaning behind it, even the harmonic lines :)

I'll recommend you three famous ones that are impossible to not love.

    Chopin's Nocturne in E Minor (Opus 72 No. 1)

    Nocturne in C# Minor (Posthumous)

Nocturne in Eb Major (Opus 9 No. 2)

I can actually think of a piece that matches exactly what you're searching for. Although if you find the 3rd Mvmt. of Moonlight Sonata impossible, I'm not too sure how well you'd do. But it's exactly like what you've said. Lots of dynamics, fast paced, tons of emotion, minor and extremely interesting. It's Rachmaninoff's Prelude in G minor (Opus 23, No. 5)
