how to start a fire with fire glass without black soot?

I am planning to start a fire using fire glass so it would look so pretty. However, I do not intend to use propane and a pipe to send the source of the fire through it like normal. I was thinking of having a metal bowl with the fire glass douse in gasoline. However I do not intend to clean them every time they turn black. Is there any oil out there that would not cover the fire glass in black soot and would burn the oil slowly or would this idea would even work?

Update:

I don't plan on making a mini lake in the bowl and maybe I shouldn't use the word gasoline. It will be like dipping the glass into the oil and placing it back into the bowl. The project will be outside and in a control environment.

The gasoline is very volatile and the fumes will spread over a large area - and the fumes are highly explosive. You could seriously harm yourself, others around you, and destroy your property if you try this. Oils and other fuels will not burn easily and will cause the glass to go black.

So No, your idea will not work at all.

EDIT after OP's edit: Perhaps you could try soaking some cotton wool in methylated spirits or mineral turpentine and lightly covering with the glass. I suspect the glass will still go black, but perhaps not as fast or completely as if you used oil.
