When was the last time a Supreme Court Justice been replaced/died when their views were different than thePres?

A Democratic President replacing a conversivative Judge or a Repub Pres replacing a liberal Judge.

I know they try to retire when the President has same views.

    Never.

The judiciary is separate from the executive. The president simply does not have the power to make a supreme court justice step down.

A lot of them step down when a president they agree with is in power, most won't do it when a president they don't agree with is in power, some do, but for other reasons.

Thurgood Marshall in 1991. He retired for health reasons when Daddy Bush was President. Clarence Thomas was appointed to replace him.

Basically every time a position becomes available.

I forget which one, but one expanded the court so they could pack the court to be in their persuasion. But that was a long time ago.
