Question for non-Americans about American tourism?

If an American approached you on the street, would you prefer for him to greet you in English or would you prefer for him to make a bumbling attempt at speaking your own language?

    I speak 3 languages and I would be very happy if I saw someone try to speak a language besides english to me.

    i prefer English. i understand if he can't really speak my native language, not that big deal ;-) but i appreciate the effort!
