How do I tell without a shadow of a doubt....?

Question

...we have an engine that my son bought from an auction, brand new 0 miles! We're pretty certain we know what type of vehicles it fits by researching the numbers we got from it...the man who wants to buy it says his mechanic said it had to be manufactured by a certain month and year which he claims should be on the motor. My question is...how do I find, where do I find beyond a shadow of a doubt that this motor was manufactured on a certain month and year?

9 times out of 10 there is a firing order stamped on the intake, if you have an idea of what the motor is you can cross reference the two on google and it will bring up that exact motor, then you can usually use that information to locate and find a serial number on the side of the block, you can usually reference that for the manufacturers record

You have not supplied us with enough information to be of any help to you.  There are build date etc cast into nearly every part of an engine somewhere.  Without knowing what kind of engine we are talking about how could I tell you where to look.?  But while you here let me ask you a question. I am baking a cake but dont have all the stuff I need to do it.  Can you tell me what I am missing?
