Wireless Repeater: Does it work?

I'm looking into getting a wireless repeater so I can get fast internet speeds, but my question is how does it work if i'm going to play online games. Will there be any lag because of it?

If you are too far from the router to get good speed the repeater mounts between the router and the furthest point you need to reach and passes on the signal. It will NOT speed up a bad connection though. It only improves wireless speed if you are so far fromthe router it has to drop your wireless to a lower speed type. So for a 54 Mbps wireless it might drop to 22 Mbps at a distance.

I don't think so because it is the same signal produced by a repeater, it's not like if anyone is using it. I have something like that in my house, there's only one signal, but it is produced in different spots
