UK interest rates up?

Rumours in the media suggest this may happen. What would the rationale be and what would there be to gain?

    Government controls central bank. So, when inflation goes up and a stir is created then central bank dilutes monetarism and increases interest rates. That encourages people to lock more money in banks and that mush money is taken away from market and demand push inflation is brought under control.
