How do I collect child support and arrears from a US parent who lives in New Zealand?

My Children's mom is a U.S. Citizen who married a New Zealand citizen and has moved out of the U.S. She owes over $9K in back support. I am looking for avenues to collect. Will she be deported if she doesn't pay or is there an agency that can help?

You can't. No, they won't won't deport her or extradite her like a criminal. There is no international agency for collecting child support. The only good news is it just keeps accruing, she'll still owe it all if she ever comes back.

Check the links below. It may take sometime before you can collect but you can give your ex a headache for sure. File for enforcement of the order in the US their DL will be suspended as well as passport, any US income taxes garnished, and judgement on their credit report. With that when they return to the US for anything they can be arrested and held until a good portion of the CS is paid up. I found this also online that you can check out: http://www.state.gov/documents/organization/86823....

Now I have probably given you more than you can use but wanted to cover all the bases. Good Luck

You aren't getting that money unless she someday moves back to the US.

There are no avenues to collect such a debt, when she has no US assets and no US residence.

it's only fairly recently you could even collect these debts across state lines.

If you file for back support through the support enforcement they may choose not to renew her passport which would require her to return to the states then you can have charges filed.

you should have had a court judgement on her payments.. then her fight is not with you.. it's with the court that ordered her to pay. If she has no judgement.. has not been ordered by a court.. you are probably screwed.. cus there is no way your going to get her to appear before one so she can pay you money. you won however.. if you got the kids.. u got something worth more than money.
