What do you think Will and Kate will name the Royal Baby?

What do you think Will and Kate will name the Royal Baby?

What do you think Will and Kate will name the Royal Baby?

With less than 4 weeks until the baby is due, I thought of setting up a few bets with my family as to the name. I've narrowed down my list to 6 names for each sex, with a few extras on the side:

Girls: Alice, Sophie/Sophia, Charlotte

(maybe Eva, just cos I love the name, possibly Frances, Grace, Victoria or Alexandra)

Boys: James, George, Louis (possibly Arthur or Philip, due to the family links)

Alice because of Prince Phillip's mother, Sophie/Sophia because it's a high-class name, and Charlotte because I think Will and Kate are quite modern yet timeless, and this name would be perfect. Many people think Diana. I disagree, it will be a middle name most probably.

James because of it's direct royal links, George likewise, and Louis because of William's middle name.

So, after that ramble, what do you think the royal couple's new arrival will be named? Give your top 3 with reasoning if you want. :D

Update:

In the UK, yes Sophie is a popular name. In European monarchies however, Sophia is a highly regarded name.

Apparently, Royal Tradition dictates that baby boys are given 4 names whilst girls are given 3.

Bearing this in mind, I think the baby will be called either George Henry Philip Michael or Elizabeth Diana Carol.

However, I feel like whilst it would be nice to give the girl baby her grandmother's name (Carol) as a middle name, it really isn't very 'Royal'. I think Victoria, Louise, Philippa and Mary are very strong possibilities for girl names also. I doubt Alexandra will be in the baby's name. I don't understand why it has the best odds with the bookies, the only Alexandra in English history has been the Queen's Great-Grandmother, who was a Danish Princess and one of the Queen's cousins, Princess Alexandra of Kent. It has been a fairly common middle name because of this, but in my opinion is it not a name they will pick. I think the boy baby will definitely have either Michael or James as a middle name, and will have some sort of combination of George, Henry, Philip or Charles for the other 3 names.

It's really hard to tell whether Wills and Kate will stick to tradition with names or give the baby something 'new'. That being said, I think it's safe to say that the baby's first name will be a very 'Royal' name.

However, it think it's pretty safe to say the name will come from this list:

BOY: George, Charles, Henry, James, William, Thomas, Peter, Philip, Michael, John, Stephen, Alexander, Andrew, Albert, Arthur, Edward, Patrick, Richard, Lionel, David, Christian and Robert.

GIRL: Elizabeth, Diana, Mary, Carol, Margaret, Philippa, Alexandra, Victoria, Charlotte, Catherine, Helena, Louise, Jane, Anne, Matilda, Patricia, Arabella, Beatrice, Eugene/Eugenie, Sophia, Isabel and Joan.

These names cover pretty much ever Royal figure in English and Scottish history.

I (think I) know the names it won't be:

Sophie/Sophia, its not a "high class" name, in the UK at least, its exceptionally popular and Sophie Wessex is Will's aunt. So that's a no.

James is also a no, as that's Sophie and Edward's son's name.

    Diana - too much controversy.

I think they'll pick something totally outside of the box, a timeless, classic name but one that isn't on the bookies list. Much like when Fergie and Andy named Beatrice and Eugenie.

Charlotte is top at the bookies atm and is the only possibility I tend to agree with, but from naming their dog Lupo, I think its all to "plain" for them.

I think Diana/Elizabeth for a girl's middle (or two middles?) - maybe even Catherine?

    Leaning towards Henry/Philip for a boy's middle - maybe even William/Charles?

For the main first name, I'm thinking Charlotte, Victoria, (because they're just that classy royal style), Amelia (because it's the #1 UK girl's name, and they like to agree with the masses)

I don't think Alexandra will feature just because it's become so hyped as being their pick (with the betting companies) and so I think they'll avoid it so as not to seem "obvious" or encourage gambling.

For a boy.... I'm very unsure. Theodore, George, maybe Arthur, maybe something totally off the wall like Nathaniel or Cassius.

If it's a girl, I think Diana or Frances will be in the name some where

I lost my mom when I was ten, 3 of her granddaughter has her first or middle name

I would not be surprise if it's a boy Spencer is some where in the name, if her mother family

Most people I know that lost a parent as a child, use their name some how in the child names

I like Princess Mary Elizabeth Diana of Cambridge if a girl, and Prince Alexander Philip Charles George of Cambridge if a boy. Then we'd have a future Queen Mary III or King Alexander IV. (The regnal number has to include both the English and Scottish predecessors.)

How about Algonquin Percival Maximilian Peregrine Eustace Rutherford and Eugenia Lavinia Henrietta Gueneviere Gwendolynne?

There are probably some unwritten rules about name guidelines so it probably won't have a common name like Stacey, Riley or Mackenzie.

    Something quite posh and old-fashioned.

Girls: Victoria, Rose, Charlotte, Louisa, Phillipa, Alicia

Boys: Harry, Henry, George, Thomas, Frederick

I was thinking Alice, Rebecca (perhaps I'm being biased because it sounds very similar to my name, haha), or Diana, or Sophia perhaps with the nickname Sophie.

For boys, I was think George, Philip, or John

I'm really excited to hear their name!
