The airbag light in my car comes on when I start my engine and stays on for the duration of my journey...what is causing this?

Either the clockspring has worn out or been damaged, wiring has shorted or is open, a ground has come lose, one of the impact or deceleration sensors is out of spec. This problem can only be done by a dealer service department as someone with lack of experience of airbag systems may cause accidental deployment resulting in damage to the vehicle and potential injury or worse to anyone in the area.

If you don't know the diagnostic procedure (counting the blinks at startup), then let a shop with the right scanner deal with it.

Take it in. There is a problem. Usually I would say that they probably need servicing but they shouldn't need servicing this early.
